HONG KONG, China - When Michael Jackson first announced he would be doing 10 shows in July – his “This Is It” concerts – in London starting on July 8, I thought the opportunity to see him live was too good to pass up.

In this photo provided by AEG/Concerts West, Jackson rehearses for the “This Is It” tour on May 6 in California.

OK, so he was 50 years old and maybe not at his prime - and suppose he cancels?

But I’d like to think I would have tried to see Elvis if he were giving what was billed as his “last concert” back in the 1970s. That wouldn’t have been possible for me, since I was three when the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll died.

So this was my chance to see the King of Pop.

I registered for the Michael Jackson presale in March, and when the sale window arrived a week later I tried to get four – then three – then two – then, OK, one, just one ticket – please!  I played a Michael Jackson CD hoping it could help my purchase sail through, given that my previous attempts had crashed because of the system overload.

As if trying to alleviate the frustration for many Michael Jackson fans, an email arrived from AEG with the subject line: “Michael Jackson Presale – Keep Trying!” And try I did until I got through with a single ticket for Sunday July 12, the third concert.

I was going!

My seat was Section BK 417, Row Q, Seat 850 at The O2.

I even bought a ticket to the “This is It! Michael Jackson: The Aftershow” party.

(Total cost, with service charges: 88 British pounds or US $145.)

By the next day, 40 shows had been added through next year, with special hospitality packages offered to include champagne and red carpet VIP check-in on arrival, DJ and entertainment, goody bag and souvenir tour laminate, parking and Thames Clipper tickets and pre-show and after-show parties.

In May, two months after purchasing the concert ticket and one week after buying my plane ticket from Hong Kong to London, I got a “Dear Customer” letter from Ticketmaster/AEG Live that the opening four shows, including July 12, were rescheduled. The first concert on July 8 would be bumped to July 13, while the others, including mine, were bumped to the end of his concert engagement – next March.

The reason given, along with apologies, was to “meet the challenges presented by such a large and technically complex concert.” The rescheduling coincided with rumors that week that Jackson was being treated for skin cancer.

Last Monday, I got another email from AEG Live, with the subject line, “Michael Jackson – Urgent Reminder,” that the July 12 concert has been rescheduled to March 3.

No email from AEG Live came on the day of his death three days later, however. That would not come until Saturday, with subject line, “Michael Jackson – The O2 – Cancellation Information (Please Do Not Reply).” It offered AEG’s condolences to Jackson’s family and friends and noted that full ticket refund information would be given soon.

My plane is still taking off this Friday. And I’m still going to be on it.

I haven’t gotten official information from AEG, but if it’s a choice between a refund or a commemorative ticket, I’ll take something tangible to remember Jackson by. I had wanted to see his last concert.

HEART WITH RED TEARS

Dedication:Michael jackson
(Without you,MJ,so much pain in this world)

The clouds choose my eyes to leave me
with a smile without a face
and heart with red tears.
silent pain when alive as life,
immortal question dies till the blood dries.
left to weep as someone dream takes flight,
beyond life as you sleep
can you be happy in the dark?
Truly at the lonely days,
deep regret reveals the emptiness
left behind.

I was shocked and really saddened by Micheal's death. I pray and hope he will rest in peace now which eluded him for the greater part of his life. If only the world had shown him this much Love and support during his trying times, then maybe, just maybe we would have a different story to tell. THE KING OF POP LIVES ON!!! I LOVE U Micheal.

I am living in Sydney and was scheduled to fly to London for Michael's show on the 10th AUG. I am still flying out. And I will celebrat his legacy at the O2 even if it will be covered in silence.
I am requesting the ticket – it is very sad piece of paper – he gave his life for it

If you're a huge fan then by all means keep the ticket as a souvenir but if not then get the refund. For normal people like me remembering the amazing talent he had and the convenience of listening to his songs anytime will suffice.

My condolences to the Jackson family, RIP Michael.

I think I deserve both the ticket and the refund! I bought these tickets in March and when you usually buy tickets from ticketmaster they are shipped well far in advance of the show date. My tickets were for the 8/28 show and they were telling me that I would receive them two weeks prior to this show date. I booked my airfare and hotel as well.....Where is my inconvenience compensation? I want AEG should of had a better insurance policy. Why do I need to pay for their loss? Give me my tickets and my refund...its only fair!

Same happens too me, i have waiting 12 years to see Michael on live. ":(

What ever someone wants to do about the refund is fine. Its their money, I just find that ticket master is really making out big on this idea. They say they feel the pain from MJ death along with the other fans. Well then take the money they make off this minus cost and donate it to a worthy cause. lets see if they will do that.

I am so devastated and still in shock that Michael is gone. He was a dear soul who was picked apart by vultures who just wanted to take advantage of him. I had 2 tickets for the concert August 1st. I will likely keep 1 and return the other. I have no problem donating the money to Michael's family for the ticket, but for Ticketmaster to charge me the entire cost (of my ticket $130) to allow me to keep my ticket as a souvenir is tantamount to robbery when we are all so emotionally distraught. I hope one day the world will open up there hearts and realize what a wonderful misunderstood angel Michael was. It is a sad world we live in where we put each other down instead of building each other up.

I am waiting you see all my life, too bad he is die, I hope to see him in other world.. ??

Michael's passing was, and still is shocking, and I am haunted by it; too many unanswered questions and the only person that could tell what really happened is gone. I hope most, if not all of the ticket holders will opt to take the commemorative ticket and not the refund. The money, minus the fees should go to the Micheal Jackson Family Trust Fund, in turn to his children who will now grow up without either parent.

Melissa   July 2nd, 2009 1601 GMT

I had been hoping to go. He was my idol as a child. I'd take the suvenier ticket too. I will miss him.

Thank you! The whole idea of people who have the money for this type of luxury item wanting a refund is ridiculous. I bet 75% of ticketholders will hold on to their tickets, in order to see whatever tribute performance is put together, hopefully combined with some "Michael Jackson's last days" rehearsal videos on a huge screen. What they are really holding on to (paying for) is the opportunity to join together in a specific time and place with other fans in order to honor Michael Jackson's life.

And the other 25%? They'll be able to sell their tickets (at a profit) to those fans who didn't realize how badly they wanted to see the King of Pop's last concert until it was too late.

P.T. Barnum was right ...

The genius at AEG who thought up this whole "commemorative ticket” idea is going to make out big come bonus time. Faced with staggering losses from the cancellation of these shows, they devised a way to just keep the ticket money. Mailing a three-cent ticket (good for admission to nothing) in exchange for hundreds of dollars is one hell of a deal … for AEG.

If you want something to remember Michael Jackson by, buy his albums. At least you can play those …

Bonnie Orum   July 3rd, 2009 049 GMT

Michael Jackson made a world a better place may he rest in peace with princess Di and all the others who help make the world a better place.

Atlanta Michael Jackson Fan   July 3rd, 2009 559 GMT

It would be so nice for AEG to give a final rehearsal DVD and a ticket to the fans that paid. Michael Jacksons final This is It commerative ticket could never be "useless". That ticket would be precious to me. How I wish I was one of the current ticket holders. He was great...

Daniel Kanu   July 4th, 2009 2149 GMT

There will never be another Michael Jackson. If only the world leaders and people every where in the world could perceive the kind of place that Michael wished our world be like, then thee would be the greatest peace on earth. Michael wanted the world to be a play ground where all God's children, black, white, brown, and yellow, had the right to play and joyful, no wars, no killings of human beings by human beings.

This message of universal peace and harmony is evident in all his songs and speeches. His legacy will live with us forver. He was a decent human being who loved everthing of God's creation. I pray that Allah grants him everlasting peace. Amen

If you want tangible, keep the receipt of the refund!
