GENEVA, Switzerland – Day 8 and it’s Geneva, Switzerland. Truth is I’m not keeping count. Paul our editor is. Poor guy, he’s had to work into the early hours of the morning to edit our pieces. All the hard work, though, is paying off. The packages look great.

We arrived in Geneva yesterday after a three hour drive from Basel. En route we stopped in Bern for lunch. It’s a beautiful city and the main tourist attraction seems to be these bears that are in the centre of the city.

We also stopped in Bern to take stock. It seems that while the interviews with the CEOs and the packages on the luxury industry are our main focus, the trip is turning out to be an episode of Survivor … or is it Big Brother? We’ve had a flat tire, we’ve had complicated driving in Basel resulting in mounting curbs, we’ve had a lost wallet, and now the piece de resistance is our hotel in Geneva.

All I will say is it is in the city’s red light district and the corner shop not only sells water, it also sells X-rated material. I went to sleep making sure I stayed in one spot.

Rubbing salt on our wounds is the fact that we will be doing interviews with CEOs today in beautiful hotels. Such is life. All that said, I’m having a really fun time. This doesn’t feel like work at all. Even standing out in the rain yesterday by Lake Geneva as we shot links for our special didn’t feel like work (the special, by the way will air this weekend). It’s cold in Geneva but despite a few glitches we’re all in one piece and having a lot of fun. That’s what I keep telling Paul. Let Day 8 begin.

Dear Monita,

Flat tires, lost wallet and delayed baggage are all tolerable irritants.

But the hotel in Geneva – or its location has upset me a lot. It hurts me to imagine anybody misbehaving with you there.

The next thing I look forward to hear is that you checked out of that hotel.

With Love,

Wow Monita,

Sounds like its not that luxurious but what an amazing job you are doing.
All your pieces look so great and you must have the most amazing crew, they seem to be so talented. Every interview has been so well written, filmed and edited. It sure has been a excellent production for CNN and meeting so many CEO’s has really boosted CNN’s profile in my eyes.

I hope the rest of your trip goes well and Im looking forward to your special. If its anything like the packages that I have been seeing Im sure it will be more than “Special”. Good luck o you and your amazing crew

It’s not that bad. I assume you’re in Paqui. In fact a former president of Switzerland has an apartment in that area and it is realtively safe compared to most American cities. It’s a mixed neighborhood with prostitutes and businessmen… On the other hand…one more day of rain and I will have to snorkel whenever I go out.

If your hotel is where I think it is, then you definitely were in Paquis! I have lived in Paquis for seven years. And as red light districts go, it’s really mild. Paquis also is one of the most vibrant parts of Geneva and it has fantastic restaurants. Hope you had a chance to try at least one of them…

At a time world-wide recessions and food crises, I think any blog–and even more so an entire half hour programme on luxury is an obscenity cnn should be ashamed of.

Hi Monita

I just saw some of the program on CNN. I am not much fan of fashion or luxery - as a evarage income person how can I afford it ?

Ok, it is a play thing for the rich person - they live in their world and we (the “poor” ;) in our - with the magazines and interviews where we get a glimse of the rich mans world.

Too bad I did not see you in Bern. I do like your smile.

Best regards

Bent Mathiesen
